I’m Ben. (He/they)
I’m just out here making stuff and being a silly goose.
I am a Naarm (Melbourne) based producer, graphic designer, production designer, photographer and performer (adhd) working on the unceded lands of the Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nations. I acknowledge and pay my respects to their elders - past and present, as well as their rich history of storytelling and humour that dates back 65,000+ years.
I am the founder and creative producer of The Maybe Pile an award winning independent production company serving as a banner for most of my latest creative output, which has included many aspects of theatre production including Producing, Stage Management, Sound Design, Production Design, Graphic Design and Prop Design + Construction, and with sights to make a dent in film + television production in the near future. The Maybe Pile have been producing critically acclaimed award winning new Australian writing with a strong focus on emerging queer voices.
I was previously the head of RMIT University’s Performing Arts Program, and the founder and artistic director of this is NOT a film festival - a regular short film event that people really seemed to enjoy.
I also have over a decade of experience as a freelance graphic designer, photographer, and videographer inside and outside of the performing arts industry working with a diverse range of clients/venues/companies including Red Bull, Seek.com, Rapha, No Such Place, RMIT University, Swinburne University, Melbourne University, AltMed, Phytoca, Werkstätte H, Hensby & Beckett, Trinity Grammar School Kew, MLC, Seymour Centre, Geelong Arts Centre, Melbourne Shakespeare Company, Artefact Theatre Co, Slay Theatre, Hearth Theatre, among others.
I am currently one of the 6 inaugural recipients of the Creative Victoria funded MILKE Producer Mentoring Program and was selected to be a Melbourne Fringe Festival Judge in 2024. In his spare time he works full time at a high school making sets and props and just generally dicking about with theatre.
