I’m Ben. (He/they)
I’m just out here making theatre and being a silly goose.

I am a Naarm (Melbourne) based actor, creator and producer working on the unceded lands of the Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nations. I acknowledge and pay my respects to their elders - past and present, as well as their rich history of storytelling and humour that dates back 65,000+ years.

I am the founder and creative producer of The Maybe Pile an independent production company serving as a banner of most of my latest creative output which has included many aspects of theatre production including Producing, Stage Management, Sound Design (Award Winning), Production Design, Graphic Design (Award Winning) and Prop Design + Construction, and with sights to make a dent in film + television production in the near future.

I was previously the head of RMIT University’s Performing Arts Program, and the founder and artistic director of this is NOT a film festival - a regular short film event that people really seemed to enjoy.

I also have over a decade of experience as a freelance graphic designer, photographer, and video maker outside of the theatre industry.

(My friend Johan Mård took this of me, and obviously it’s gorgeous and my hair has and will never look better, but I could’ve bloody ironed my shirt couldn’t I?
And what am I doing? Obviously something creative sparked for dear Johan and I cheerfully obliged when his Swedish Director™ kicked in and he’d probably given me some kind of direction about blocking out all the terror of modern life, and take in the terroir – or something. I think it’s hilarious, because what do you even do with your hands? I’d just seen a deer, like a big majestic Swedish one, and that was really great for me, and I was a bit giddy and grinning like a child, but Johan was also having me be Scandi Noir, because Johan sells these images to stock photo agents and one he took from like 15 years ago of me and my ex girlfriend made a bunch of money in Germany or something, so I pushed through it. Johan said there’s something very brave about showing your legs in a professional setting so yeah, that’s me, just out of Stockholm, pushing through it before a lot of the weight of the world kicked in.)
